We'll be discussing TWO books in our May meeting, both on the subject of the Electoral College.
You do not have to read either book in order to attend. Read one, read them both, skim either, or come to learn. We believe you’ll still find listening to the discussion to be time well-spent. Everyone is welcome to register.
Discussion will be led by Margaret Lukens, Program Committee member.
Note: We will be meeting IN-PERSON at the League's office, 444 Peninsula Avenue, Suite 1, San Mateo. The office is not directly on Peninsula Avenue but is reached through the driveway on Woodside Way or through the driveway that enters between two adjacent buildings on Peninsula.
If you will be joining us, please register.

It may surprise many voters to learn that the Electoral College had no principled foundation and its use has changed many times during its 230-year history. Carolyn Renée DuPont, professor of American history at Eastern Kentucky University, takes a historian's view of the institution and examines its effects of today's political system. (221 pages)
Lawmakers have tried to amend or abolish the Electoral College more than 700 times. Supreme Court journalist and New York Times editorial board member Jesse Wegman dives deep into the debates of the founders, examines the effects of the Electoral College today, and argues forcefully for why the time for change is now.
